Gutierrez is a first-generation graduate who knows this particular generation will face a tough road with barriers that can be difficult to overcome. She also realizes the importance of having a heart-to-heart talk with students and their parents.
With a deep understanding of Latino youth's cultural tones and unique challenges, Maria is dedicated to evaluating educational programs and strategic planning, creating a supportive and inclusive environment where youth of color can thrive. Through her leadership and strategic vision, she strives to uplift and amplify the voices of Latino youth and their parents, ensuring they receive the recognition and opportunities they deserve and create an equitable and inclusive society for all. Gutierrez graduated from National Louis University with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behavioral Sciences and holds two Master's- a Master of Educational Leadership and a Master of Education in Learning Sciences in Education with an emphasis in Technology Instructional Design Coach Major. During her tenure with the University of Illinois Extension, Gutierrez has organized and coordinated programs throughout Cook County to identify and address the needs of underserved communities. Gutierrez brings a background in adult education, youth development, and program planning, emphasizing Latinos defying the representation gap in the STEM workforce by creating innovative and creative solutions that can help improve the lives of people from all backgrounds. Gutierrez continues to work relentlessly to build a culturally inclusive environment that celebrates diversity, equity, and accessibility by empowering the development of meaningful relationships that foster a greater sense of belonging for the next generation of innovators while preparing them as the next leaders within the workforce in STEM careers.
