Kahoot
A cool tool I finally got to work is Kahoot.
Players join in using their own device – whether that is a desktop, laptop, iPad or a cell phone device as long as they have a browser and good internet connection.
The games are displayed on a shared screen – for example a whiteboard, projector, laptop or TV. We may also use screen sharing tools like Skype or Google Hangouts to include players from other classes. Kids like to be competitive and they may interact with others from various parts of the world. Best par is that it is FREE and it's also available in many languages.
As a coordinator, one of my duties is to provide support to our educators. Currently, we are in the process of rolling out our first Project Based Learning workshop for our summer teacher institute and I must assist integrating some technology to their activities. I first learned about Kahoot last summer during a Googlepalooza PD training. Although, I went through a little bit of trouble creating and setting up an account, I managed to find my way around it after watching a few tutorials.
Last week, I designed my first quiz on Bullying. I included ten questions and set a twenty-second-time frame allowing students to answer. Initially, I set it for ten seconds but decided to increase it to twenty seconds instead. I am taking in consideration to those who are fairly new to Kahoot (like me). Once we acquaint ourselves with it, I will adjust the timing. Also, there is an option to add music to the background. In my opinion, I find this a bit distracting as it contributes to my anxiety but I guess this will be good for students.
